Building the world's largest Data Warehouses, Greenplum is committed to pioneering massively parallel data-intensive analytic processing. We are looking for talented individuals to join our new analytics team, which is developing a fundamentally new approach to how business generates meaning from data. This team will develop new methodologies and tools to enable advanced modeling and statistical analysis against petabyte-scale data sets. 

Our Data Scientists will work with prospects and customers to prove the analytical capabilities of Greenplum's technology in generating business insights from big data. They will seek to understand our customers' most urgent questions, and use statistical methods and models to provide answers, often as part of pilot projects in the initial stages of a sales cycle or implementation. The Data Scientists will develop new practices and methodologies for working with the Greenplum data warehouse technology, often working closely with leading academics and industry experts. They will also work with engineers to create new tools and features that support sophisticated analytics within the database. 
 

Responsibilities:

  • Use techniques from business intelligence, statistical analysis and modeling to deliver business insights to prospects and customers based on data stored in Greenplum data warehouses.
    • Work with internal and external teams to understand customer requirements.
    • Develop proposals, based on available data and technology, to respond to these requirements.
    • Create analyses and develop models.
    • Deliver results and presentations in a timely manner.
  • Create re-usable implementations of statistical tests and models using the available technologies in the Greenplum database.
  • Work with the academic and business community to develop new techniques and to contribute to research in the area of business intelligence and analytics on large databases.
  • Generate new product requirements for the Greenplum engineering group to enhance the analytics capabilities of the database.


Requirements:

  • A passion for generating insights from data
  • Strong knowledge of statistical methods generally, and particularly in the areas of modeling and business analytics
  • Experience with statistical languages and packages, including R, S-Plus, SAS and Matlab; experience with databases and SQL; familiarity with business intelligence (BI) software
  • Experience of working with large data sets
  • Advanced degree in a technical field (e.g. mathematics, statistics, physics)
  • A team player, capable of conducting independent research
  • Results-driven, self-motivated, self-starter
  • Not afraid to take on hard technical challenges
  • Excellent communication skills

Credit Data Analyst

Teachers Credit Union is one of the largest industry based Credit Unions in the country and provides a comprehensive range of financial products and services to over 155,000 members Australia wide. Our head office based in Homebush currently has a vacancy for an experienced Credit Data Analyst to join an ever-expanding team of risk professionals. 

The role of the Credit Data Analyst will be to develop statistical models including assisting with scorecards and robust data analysis to help measure our portfolio risk and predict borrower risk. This position will also be responsible for monitoring results and identifying risks, trends and opportunities for the credit portfolio. An integral part of this position will be to work closely with other data analysts in Finance, Loans and Marketing to ensure the effective and efficient use of data and that strategic goals in relation to data management can be met over time.

To apply for this role, applicants must be degree qualified (ideally in mathematics, statistics or information systems) and have a minimum of 2 years experience in a credit and/or finance role within the banking or financial services industry. Essentially, applicants must also have experience in management reporting, data management, model development, data mining, scorecard development and maintenance.

When assessing suitability for this role, preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate their experience using MS Office applications at an advanced level, specifically Access with VBA and SQL server programming and SQL database design and development of relational databases. MIS Report development with an ability to design and develop reports in Access or Crystal Reports and experience in matching business requirements to data management (Business Intelligence) tools is also required. Exposure to Basel II modelling strategies and processes would be highly regarded. 

This position would suit a person who has advanced written and oral communication skills, has attention to detail and who can demonstrate an analytical approach to their work. The successful candidate will also need the ability to work under pressure and be highly organised.

The Consultant may have been trained as a Statistician and have worked either on the supply side as a consultant or you may have worked on within a corporation undertaking forecasting, risk or similar analysis for informed decision making.

The successful candidate will have experience in application of SAS or SPSS in major commercial environments and who has a passion about the possibility of deploying Analytic tools among commerce and government.

The domains of modeling and forecasting of sales and profit as a result of a full range of marketing activities are of key interest, as is the ability to link financial performance to key external competitive metrics/benchmarks.

This is a leadership role with a standalone profit centre, having access to SAS SPSS and development software. It would be staffed by analysts, programmers and relationship/project managers.

This is a role for a self starter and just like a partner in a firm the remuneration will include a base salary of 130-150K plus a profit share to be discussed.
